This week saw the launch of our latest joint report with Money20/20, North America’s Cross-Border Payments Rewiring, to coincide with the US edition of the leading payments event.

Following a similar research format to our white papers for Money20/20 Asia and Money20/20 Europe, as well as utilising our own market sizing data, the report is based on detailed analysis of 650 different industry articles covering cross-border payments that were published in the US, Canada and Mexico over the last year. This has allowed us to identify key trends and developments, providing a snapshot of the industry in the region and serving as a guide for where it is headed in the future.
Our market sizing data shows that in 2025, the Americas saw outbound non-wholesale cross-border payments top $9.4tn – 21% of global outflows – 86% of which is from B2B and B2C payments. In 2033, we project this figure will rise to $70tn, although growth is expected to be slower than global averages. This is due to the fact that North America, which dominates flows, is already a mature market and so is set to see less rapid growth than key emerging markets, including Latin America and the Caribbean.

Within North America, we found significant variation in priorities, with stablecoin being a key focus for the US while geopolitics and trade was a far more discussed topic area for Canada and Mexico. However, interoperability led topics overall, underscoring both an increased interest in bridging domestic and international payments and an increasingly sophisticated network landscape.
The full white paper, which includes both country and trend-level analysis, as well as coverage of the region’s most-discussed companies, can be downloaded via Money20/20’s website.
